You’ve finished college or high school and don’t have a lot of work experience, and you want to write a meaningful and competitive resume, we’ll try to make the process easier for you with a few helpful tips. Don't bother with the amount of data, but thei

Select a form

Many people use the Europass form with default parameters in creating their CV, but if you decide to use Microsoft Word, you will not go wrong if the content is meaningful. To make it easier to create in Word, use the default questions from Europass that can serve as guidelines in obtaining the form. Official documents are sent in PDF format, so save your document and send it in that format regardless of what you did in Word.

Select a font

It seems like an insignificant detail, but it gains in importance if you use vaguely or not-transparent fonts which tells the employer a lot about you. The usual font in official communication is Times New Roman and you play with it for sure if you want to leave a professional impression. Other suitable fonts: Arial and Calibri. Font size: 11 or 12.

Title

Your first and last name are the title of your resume if you decide to go with the Microsoft Word form.

Basic information

The basic data is part of each biography, usually placed at the beginning or in the right, upper corner in a visible place.
Required information:

  • Name and surname
  • Address
  • Contact (phone number and email address)

Email address should contain your first and last name, not nicknames, characters from movies and series, or other imaginative names.

Education

List all regular schools you have attended, this section does not include courses, etc. Example: (1996-2004 Davorin Trstenjak, Elementary School, Zagreb).

A summary of yourself

Here you present yourself and your skills in a few sentences. Since you do not have a wealth of work experience, use this section to present the direction in which you would like to develop and the qualities you possess, and you think are compatible with the job you are looking for.
Avoid extensive descriptions, use as few phrases and phrases that sound false and vain. If you have used some of the tools in your life, such as Microsoft Word or Excel state, it doesn't matter that you are not a top expert on them, but they are not completely unknown to you.

Work experience

It may seem challenging to write about a work experience you don’t have, but don’t leave the column blank. You must have been doing some seasonal work, volunteering, or doing an internship at some point. No experience is insignificant and can give a lot to the employer about your work habits or for example have you ever worked with a lot of people. Never invent jobs or level of knowledge because it is easy to verify and can bring you a lot of inconveniences if the employer decides to check that practice.

Introductory email

By no means neglect the power of an introductory email, especially in a situation where you don’t have a wealth of work experience to present to employers. Look at that email as an opportunity to briefly tell the employer the most important things about yourself. Your information, education, and why you applied for the job.
Remember, there is no universal rule or magic resume that will guarantee you a job because every situation and every employer is different. Still, you can get closer to the standard that has statistically proved to be the most successful, and with a little dose of creativity and a personal stamp ensure yourself the best chance of success.
